KoobFace Virus/Worm on FaceBook and MySpace
Koobface virus is on the loose! Facebook and MySpace users please beware. The koobface worm or virus, once it gets into your computer (or infects it) will take your private data, like credit card numbers and other internet activies.
The news of this threatening virus was first discovered in the first days of December and after almost 2 weeks, the Koobface worm or virus is still going strong and continues to torment and spy on MySpace and facebook users. So the management of Facebook (through Barry Schnitt, the spokesperson) He said that there had been a lot of viruses that attempted to use Facebook to disseminate themselves. However he made it a point that only a very small portion of the whole Facebook population had been directly affected.
How Does the KoobFace Worm/Virus Work?
Just like any other worm, trojan and virus, the Koobface virus must be activated and executed first on the host’s local PC.. How they do this? Well, they first spam a Facebook/Myspace contact with comment title such as such as “Paris Hilton Tosses Dwarf On The Street” and “My friend catched [sic] you on hidden cam”or “You look just awesome in this new movie.”
Once the user clicks the link, he will be redirected to a page where he will be requested to download an update of Adobe Flash Player (apparently).. and there you go, you’ll be infected with the Koobface virus. Pretty clever.
But not to worry. McAffee and Facebook and Myspace told users that they are doing everything to stop and eliminate this menace.
