Since our Canon DC22 camcorder was stolen few nights back, I’ve been looking at Ebay for possible replacement. I even saw the same model which is currently on sale. Yes, I did bid on it.

Then, I started receiving emails that apparently came from the seller… asking my best bid, and that the price is negotiable.. Here’s one of the email:

Dear jacaranda,
I’m the seller of the item title : Canon DVD Video Camera DC22
Item Number:320223324041 .
You bidded on my auction and i wan’t to know if you still want to buy this item,if so please let me know your best price and reply this email! The price will be negociable.

Thanks !!

For the unknowing, this modus operandi may have work! In fact, honestly, if this wasn’t flagged by Gmail as spam (yes, it was on my spam folder), I would have probably replied to it! But I will not send him money tru paypal that easily! I would still use Ebay for that.

Then I got this second email asking again my best offer for the camcorder. Take note, it was from a different sender! This time it was directly delivered in my inbox!

Subject: Message from eBay Member for Item Number 320223324041

Hello dear eBay meber, I`m Seller of item i want to know you best price because i do have more . If you are interested just give me a fast reply on this with your best price and you will find all the info that you want. Thank You For your Time

Fake! That’s my first thought! Why? The first thing I noticed about the email is the grammar. I checked the item on ebay and confirmed that the description written to it was in perfect English! Fake!

I then decided to drop the REAL seller a message tru Ebay, and here’s his reply (arrived few minutes ago):

Dear jacaranda,

No, I have not emailed you about this item. I would ignore the email and assume it’s fake.

I just want to share this to everyone who ever stumble to this page who transact on Ebay… Beware of this modus operandi… definitely a scam!

Anyway, I have also received that kind of message and I forwarded it to abuse@ebay.com to notify them that I have not had any dealings with that person and now he/she is suddenly asking to transact with me.
