D-Day at the Juno Beach

October 5th, 2008 by Root

It’s early morning, Saturday here in Burnaby, I turn the TV on and watched the news. A feature of war veteran was on and there was the Canadian Veteran having speeches on young children, remembering their experiences of the events of “D-Day”.

The brave war veteran mention the nightmare that happened when they landed on Juno Beach. He painfully recalled that day when Canadian soldiers fell dead one by one like flies on an insecticide. That day on the Juno Beach was a nightmare and he wanted to share that to the young ones so they can appreciate what they did for their country.

I already had and idea what this Juno Beach is. Yeah, and I guess you do too. Juno Beach. Does ‘Saving Private Ryan’ ring bell? Yep, that’s the beach.

What is Juno Beach?

Wikipedia establishes itself as a reliable source of facts and factoids. So let’s qoute the juno beach term from it.

Juno Beach was one of the landing sites for Allied invaders on the coast of Normandy during D-Day. It was situated between Sword Beach and Gold Beach. It is also known as the Canadian beach, as it was assigned to the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division (with the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade). Juno Beach stretched from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer on the east to Courseulles-sur-Mer on the west. Both assault formations were placed under the command of British I Corps for the initial phase of the invasion, and did not come under Canadian command again until July 1944 and the establishment of II Canadian Corps headquarters in Normandy.

You can search movie trailers on utube and other utube videos about Juno Beach.
