Columbia vs. Boston in SXSW?

Cool title.. I just mentioned that because I read two separate article about it. One is that Columbian will dominate SXSW and other one is Boston will dominate south by southwest.

Here’s the Columbina SXSW one:

Colombian invasion at SXSW

There’s more to the Colombian music scene than Juanes and Shakira. The government of the South American country is sending 10 acts to SXSW this year. Acts range from thrash metal to Latin hip hop to pop.

Among those coming are Raton Perez, Choc Quib Town, Bomba Estereo and Poper. It’s not yet known where the Colombian showcases will be held.

In other SXSW-related news, the Roky Erickson jam, which is becoming a tradition at the Austin Music Awards, will find the Rokster backed by Black Angels. Also, organizer Margaret Moser confirmed that the Dicks will play.

Here’s the one that BOston will:

A guy from boston, who runs a blog, said that SXSW 2009 may be dominated by Boston Band.. of course. :)

Here’s what we read:

Or… sorta the opposite of that. There is only one Boston group on the current list of SXSW Showcasing Bands, compared to 10 bands from New York (including Brooklyn) and 10 from Austin. This probably reflects more on the general trend of Bands Must Be From Brooklyn Or Austin Or No One Will Like Them than on the Boston music scene, and hundreds of bands will be added to the festival before March. Still, it might’ve been nice to see a few more area folks on the bill by now.

At least the band representing us is pretty damn good. The Everyday Visuals (video above) have a cool name, a sweet sound, and a strong pedigree, having received accolades from the Noise, the Dig, and the Metro. If we end up at SXSW this year (we might need 95 degree weather by then), we’ll definitely make sure to see them play—perhaps multiple times. Providence artist Sage Francis is also on the SXSW list.

Why do I care? I don’t.. I’ll just gonna be watching Smallville streaming videos.
