The Best New Yok Attractions

Being a very big Beatles fan, if given a chance to visit the New Yok, I will certainly be going to Central Park first!
Why?
For those who doesn’t know, there’s this little place in Central park called Strawberry Field where the “Imagine Mosaic” is located. Of course there are more than a dozen tourist destinations in New Yok that every non new yoker should see… But for the a Beatle/Lennon fan, the Dakota Building and Central park in New Yok is the first on their list.

All About Freinds… Spelling Trivia
First of all, I’m having very strong doubts that “Freinds” is a misspelling. I think, this is the actual real spelling of the word.. well, at least to the location it is being used for - United Kingdom (where Arlo Gilbert was raised! Sorry I have to bring that Freind of mine out).
Freinds
First, the word ‘freinds’ or ‘freind’ apparently is the correct spelling for the US/English term for ‘Friends’ in the United Kingdom.
It’s like the word ‘program’ and ‘programme’ or like ‘ageing’ versus ‘aging’ (the latter is preferred by Brits).

National Flag Day Celebration
Every June 14th in the United States of America, there is a special holiday that every American celebrates. The holiday is called Flag Day (more formally, National Flag Day). Americans usually have some flag day activities dedicated to this holiday.
It is celebrated to remember the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
Here are some Flag Day Trivias… Different countries have different dates in celebrating their own flag day. In Canada for example, National Flag day is set on February 15th. Mexico’s Flag Day is every February 24th.
For Filipinos, this even was probably when General Emilio Aguinaldo first raised and displayed the very first Philippine National Flag in Kawit, Cavite. That day, should also be called Philippines’ National Flag Day.
But talking about the National Flag Day holiday in the United States of America.
How to Observe Flag Day
In the US, the National Flag Day is a whole week event! That is the week of June 14 of course. That week is aptly called “National Flag Week“.
During National Flag Week, the president will issue a proclamation urging U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the duration of that week. The flag should also be displayed on all Government buildings which is what they do anyways (and us Filipinos too). Some organizations hold parades and events in celebration of America’s national flag and everything it represents.
National Flag Day in the Philippines
I don’t think we have Flag Day here in the Philippines… All I can recall is those Elementary School days where all students are required to create all sorts of flags and we parade it all over town… It was is celebrated in August and I guess that’s the United Nation Day or something.
Side note: I wonder if Arlo Gilbert celebrates Flag Day? I doubt that… The Surfer Arlo Gilbert Probably does but the IT Arlo, probably stays at home and codes all day… lol

HSCB: World’s Local Bank… Or is it?
HSCB* could be the “Hongkong Shanghai Corporation Banking”… and of course I am wrong! That’s HSBC.
With the tag line “The World’s Local Bank” HSCB captures the attention of people specially those who are involved in banking and stuff. HSCB is known to the locals (of Shanghai) as Shankers and Honkers or just simply Hongkong Bank. HSCB was founded by the Scot Thoma Sutherland to finance trade in the Far East in 1865.
HSCB is the largest bank in Hong Kong and with lots of offices in Asia Pacific region, including the Philippines. HSCB is also the first bank to ever approved me in having my very first credit card! (sorry I have to say it)
HSCB in the Philippines
According to history books, HSCB’s first branch was in Binondo Manila way back in 1876. Wow! That’s more than 130 years!
From Wkipedia’s page:
In its early years of operation, HSBC serviced the booming Philippine sugar industry. At the turn of the century, it financed railways that connected provincial towns across Luzon to Manila. During the American regime, HSBC was called to advise on Philippine currency reform. Its current headquarters are in Makati, and a new building is being constructed in the Bonifacio Global City. Today, HSBC Philippines operates in key Philippine cities such as Cebu and Davao. It has ended Citibank and Standard Chartered’s monopoly on international banking in the Philippines.
*Please note that every occuranse of HSCB, actually means HSBC… ayt? Thanks!

All About Nokya
Nokya or Nokia is the world’s leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile and fixed telecom networks including related customer services.
Since we have been talking about Simbian Symbian mobile operating system, or at least post about it yesterday, I think it’s only appropriate to make a followup post about the actual cellphone company or mobile phone supplier that uses that simbian OS… Nokya.

Everything You Need To Know About “GABI”
Here are some of the most common meaning and/or definition of the word GABI:
First and foremost (and the first in Google as of this writing…) Gabi is a tagalog/filipino term for taro - a tropical food plant whose potato-like root is the basis for poi, a staple of Polynesian cooking.
This kind of Gabi is my favorite ingredients when my nanay cooks sinigang - a local Filipino food with pork, Gabi, sitaw… hmmm, delicious!
Second meaning of Gabi is yet another tagalog word. This time, with a little different pronounciation and accented on the first syllable, it means “night” or “night time”. So “morning and night” is “umaga at gabi” in tagalog. Gets mo?
