PicLens, Cool Way To View Your Pictures

August 16th, 2008 by admin

Piclens is the most recent firefox add-on installed on my browser! Piclens, now called CoolIris, is a full-Screen, 3D picture viewer on the web! This is so cool, and I must say that you must see and experience it yourself to really enjoy it! I’m sure you’ll say what I said the first time I saw and use PicLens… “Wow!”

What is PicLens?

Well, like I said, it transforms your firefox internet browser (not sure if there is one for IE) into a full screen, 3D like picture viewer. To Quote the site:

PicLens transforms your browser into a visually stunning experience for finding and viewing online photos and videos. Our “3D Wall” lets you effortlessly search and zoom your way around thousands of images, videos, news feeds, sports feeds, and more. See our demo .

Yeah, sure you’ll feel like  you’re using an Itouch/iPhone interface but hey, the guys behind piclens/cooliris thought about implementing it on our desktop first. (Or if they’re not the first, they sure made it famous).

Googel Earth

March 28th, 2008 by admin

googel earthGoogel, the super search engine of all has tons of other services, including this Googel Earth! Other services or applications that google has is email (gmail), blogging engine (blogger), Video sharing (yutube), office (docs), RSS aggregator (reader) and others.

What is heaven is Googel Earth?

Well, according to the definition of Mr. Wikipedia itself:

Googel Earth is a virtual globe program that was originally called Earth Viewer and was created by Keyhole, Inc. It maps the earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe.

Personally, I really really love this application from Google. If I’m bored and has nothing in mind to do, I “fly” anywhere in the world with the help go Googel Earth!

The one I use course is the free, available-for-all version. In case you don’t know, there are 3 versions of Googel Earth:

  1. Google Earth, a free version with limited functionality;
  2. oogle Earth Plus ($20 per year), which includes additional features; and
  3. Google Earth Pro ($400 per year), which is intended for commercial use.

Anyway, for ordinary internet users like ourselves, the free version is enough.
You can download Googel Earth application here.

Enjoy!

Bro’s New Phone: Nokia 5310

February 23rd, 2008 by admin

Just finish chatting with my brother.. you know, sharing thing or two… He’s leaving for New York on the 26th! He also got this brand new xpressmusic phone, a Nokia 5310!

Apparently his cool XDA Exec Windows Mobile Powered PDA/Phone has become to bulky and/or heavy for him… hence a smaller and lighter upgrade(?)

Key features

  • 9.9 mm slim and lightweight
  • 3.5 mm standard jack
  • Lots of preloaded applications
  • 2″ 16M color display with QVGA resolution
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Decent keypad
  • Bluetooth with A2DP
  • S40 5th edition user interface
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • Dedicated music keys
  • microSD card slot (2GB memory card included)

Main disadvantages

  • Mediocre camera with no flash or auto focus, really slow
  • Tri-band only
  • No 3G
  • Memory card slot under the battery cover
  • Inadequate QCIF video recording
  • Uneven backlighting

Update:

02/24… Turns out that the phone was damaged or something… wont power on. tsk too bad.

Squba: Underwater Car! Amazing!

February 17th, 2008 by admin

An underwater car, based on a James Bond film (The Spy Who Loved Me) will be  unveiling in Switzerland. The Squba can travel on land or underwater!

Check out an excerpt from Rinspeed website (the created of Squba) about the world’s first ever underwater car:

With the “sQuba,” the world’s first real submersible car, the movie fake now becomes reality for visitors of the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008). Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht (52) is known for his extraordinary automotive creations. The acknowledged James Bond enthusiast and Swiss automobile visionary kept revisiting this scene in his mind over and over: “For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.”

Cool eh? Check out the Squba Underwater Car in action!
